Modern Foreign Languages - MFL
‘You live a new life for every language you speak. If you only know one language, you only live once.' Czech proverb
We believe that learning a language is important as an educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils, who can develop communication skills, and explore differences and similarities between a foreign language and English.
We aim to foster enthusiasm for language and raise awareness of the cultures of the countries of languages studied; and deepen understanding of the world.
We learn about the multicultural world around us and have the opportunity to develop interest in the culture of other nations.
MFL is a national curriculum subject which has the potential for valuing diversity and challenging intolerance and racism. We ensure that children develop the four key skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. From years 3-6 we learn French. Children are introduced to French during their day, for example when answering the register, from Nursery onwards.
